Abstract

This paper will evaluate the growth performances of four 4 indigenous high quality timber species namely Dipterocarpus baudii Keruing bulu Shorea macroptera Meranti melantai Shorea leprosula Meranti lembaga and Shorea curtisii Meranti seraya which were planted in the gaps after logging at Bukit Kinta Forest Reserve Perak Darul Ridzuan. The result of survival rate showed that D. baudii 83 S. macroptera 66 S. leprosula 56 S. curtisii 17.5. In terms of height and diameter growth S. leprosula showed the best result at 10.7m and 94.5 mm respectively compared to the other species studied. Furthermore low survival rate of S.curtisii showed that selection of planting site is very important for the species.
