Abstract

Aspergillus oryzae AO is one of the dominant microorganism as direct fed microbials DFM to improve animal productions. However only limited informations regarding on the mode of actions about supplementary effects of DFM on animal production. The purpose of this study was to monitor the possible existence of antimicrobial activity in AO culture in different carbohydrate source media with or without nitrogen stress. The fungal cultures were grown under normal and nitrogen stressed medium condition. Under nitrogen stressed medium condition the antimicrobial activity of AO culture was higher than that of AO culture under normal growth condition. According to the results of fungal mat analysis the total dry weight and the fungal culture mat protein concentration in the normal medium culture was higher than in the nitrogen stressed medium culture. The antimicrobial activity does exist even in the AO culture grown under normal medium condition higher amount of antimicrobial activity could be induced under nitrogen stressed medium condition. More researchers are required to elucidate detailed information about antimicrobial compounds induction from the culture of Aspergillus oryzae.
