Abstract
The Village Rubber Technology Project PROKAM was initiated by the Malaysian Rubber Board with the main objective of increasing the rubber yield and income of rubber smallholders. The smallholders debelopment projects were implemented in 17 different locations involving a participatory approach by rubber smallholders in each of the village community. The project participants were provided with the necessasry rubber and integrated technologies a start-up capital and agricultural inputs apart form the necessary training and skills for project management. The main thrust was the direct transfer of rubber technologies to the rubber smallholders to improve their farm incom from their smallholdings using the latest tapping and stimulation technologies. Rubber yield increased twofold and the family incomes accrued improved their socio-economic status. Supplementary income was derived from integrated farming activities managed by the smallholders. A revolving fund was established to sustain the projects. The paper highlights some achievements in the community development project sponsored by the Malaysian Rubber Board.
