Abstract

Observations made ten years ago in 1994 showed that there was a minimum of 21 groups of Nasalis larvatus with 126 animals residing in the Klias Peninsula. Overall population density was estimated to be 1.14 individual/km2. However the animals were not uniformly distributed throughout the area. The main concentration of N. larvatus population was at Garama located in the central part of Klias Peninsular. Starting in January 2004 N. larvatus population in Klias Peninsula was re-surveyed. In this paper comparisons were made on the distribution and abundance of N. larvatus in 1994 and 2004. Brief discussion on the current threats and suggestions on the conservation measures needed to ensure the long term survival of N. larvatus in Klias are presented.
