Lee Y.F., . and Joseph Tangah, . (2005) Natural regeneration of logged-over mangrove swamps in Sibyte Forest Reserve. [Proceedings Paper]
Abstract
A study of the regeneration rate of selected mangrove trees Ceriops tagal and Rhizophora spp. was carried out in Sibyte Mangrove Forest Reserve Sandakan. Initial results indicate that after harvesting in small coupes the recovery rate of the residual stands was encouraging. This shows that harvesting of mangroves timber could be carried out on a sustainable basis but care should be taken for conserving the unique mangrove ecosystem if more intensive management is envisaged.
