Abstract
We live in an interesting era of the 21st Century. What will our descendents think of us as they look back The significance of wildlife in the proposed Padang Taratak Conservation Area PTCA within the Klias Peninsula wetlands to the economy and development of Sabah is increasing. In recognition of these facts the Sabah Wildlife Department has identified several issues and challenges in the context of law under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997. These issues and challenges may provide guidance in complementing the Forestry Departments long term programme of work and action thus in any way enhancing our responsibility for wildlife protection and utilization. On the matter of priority the firts management option and set of actions concern protection of wildlife. This is a truly fundamental concern because the basic resources must be adequately protected and maintained. The underlying message of this paper is that wetlands such as the proposed PTCA in Klias peninsula is a renewable resources which can be utilized and still retain its diversity and richness of mankinds continuing benefits but only if we care to work together and to learn enough about the utilization that takes place within the limits of the forests inherent dynamic processes. Therefore I wish neither to express ideas that are not presented verbatim nor to offend anybody. My expectation is that it will provide some basis to any stakeholders who will play major roles in promoting sustainable wildlife and habitat conservation of the Klias Peninsula.
