Abstract
High quality planting materials produced by reputable seed producers with elaborate breeding programme and strict quality control during the seed production process will improve the productivity and competitiveness of the Malaysia oil palm industry. This paper reports on quality control techniques for 1 collection storage and utilization of pollen 2 new techniques for bagging and controlled pollination of female inflorescences 3 productivity improvements towards more efficient processing eg. mechanized fruit stripping new type depericarper mechanized seed washing seed counting table stacked plastic trays for heat treatment and seed germination better designed selection table. Stringent quality control measures for bagging of both male and female inflorescences are essential to ensure legitimate crosses. Quality control must ensure that only vigorous and healthy seedlings are selected for field planting. Culling must be stringent and thorough to reduce the chances of planting abnormal palms in the field which will ultimately lower productivity.
