Abstract
Majority of dipterocarp seeds are winged and mature within 2 months at about the same time. These dipterocarp seeds tend to germinate readily. This condition had forced the nurserymen to plant these seeds immediately. Seeds are considered fragile as the pericarp with papery testa can be broken easily. Usually seed dewinging is processed manually which is labor intensive time consuming and yet critical to retaining seeds quality. The dewinging process helps in facilitating seed germination and is advantageous when the sowing space is limited. A dewinging experiment was carried out on seven species in order to determine whether dipterocarp seeds can be processed mechanically or not. It was found that prototype machine namely Seed Dewinger Machine SDM was able to dewing dipterocarp seeds prior to sowing without affecting seed viability.
