Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between the quality of medium density fibreboard MDF and the use of oil palm trunks OPT of three different positions of bole length and both the pruned oil palm fronds OPF and empty fruit bunches EFB obtained from erect palm of three different age groups. It was noted that fibres from oil palm trunk OPT oil palm frond OPF and empty fruit bunch EFB gave different quality of medium density fibreboard MDF. Fibre processing and the quality of MDF depend on the fibre strength distribution which in turn is dependent on the fibre sources oil palm ages and the height within a bole position. In general the factors influencing board strength are related to physical rather than chemical. It is not suprising therefore that some of the may conflicting conclusions on the physical and mechanical properties of MDF boards made from oil palm fibres may be the results of variations in the properties of individual fibres used.
