Abstract
In facing the challenge of rising cost of production the oil palm industry in Malaysia should position itself to increase the value of its products in order to sustain profitability. A strategy towards this is to use gene technology to create planting materials for the production of high value oils and other novel products. MPOBs biotechnology programme is focused on the application of genetic engineering and genomic tools for such purpose.
