Abstract

Green bean seedling in Malaysia locally called 'rauge' is recognized as a vegetable for dishes. The 'tauge' production is related to the germination of green bean seeds by incubation at an appropriated temperature and humidity. Bacterial symptoms are commonly found in the germination stages and serious disease can destroy 'tauge' with production of a number of matrix tones. Early symptoms appeared as yellowish dots on the stem which became elongated into red yellowish strips on seedling stem and become water soake. Advance symptoms on the seedling stems become red brownish blotches water soak sunken and with soft rot. Bacteria colonies on King's B Agar medium were dense white and raised producing a greenish diffusible pigment with blue-green fluorescence under UV-light. Pathogenicity test was carried out by dipping vacuum technique to green bean seedlings and the red yellow streaks symptoms appeared at 2 days after incubation at room temperature. BiologR Identification System and other biochemical tests has proved that the bacteria was similar to the biochemical characteristics of Pseudomonas tolaasii.
