Abstract

Seed quality differences within seed lot of soybean cv. Wilis produced under-field condition in dry season August -November 2001 were compared with those in wet season December 2001 -March 2002. Seed quality assessed by the value of potential longevity K of seeds produced in the dry season was higher than those from wet season. This result suggests that soybean seeds produced in wet condition has lower seed quality. High rainfall during wet season may be the cause of lower seed quality. Seeds produced in wet season are not suggested to be stored as planting material for carryover season. Further seeds separated into large medium and small size showed that small sized seeds are of lower quality. Grading to remove the portion of small seeds is recommended as it can result in a 15 decline in germination of the seed lot.
