Abstract

The objective of this study is to observe the effect of rubber addition on the tensile and impact properties of WPC made from wood flour WF and polypropylene PP with or without several additives under various WF contents. Addition of maleic anhydride MAH dicumyl peroxide DCP and anti oxidant AO on the WF-PP composites greatly improved the tensile strength. The improvementof tensilestrength and impact strength were found about 102.01 0.2098 respectively. Addition of EPR ethylene propylene rubber on the WF-PP composites. Addition of MEPR maleated ethylene propylene rubber in small quantity resulted in greater improvement of tensile strength and slightly improvement of impact strength of composites but the tensile strength reduced linearly. Addition of EPR combined with MAH showed greater improvement of the tensile and impact strength properties compared to MEPR combined with MAH. The tensile strength Youngs modulus and impact properties of resulted WPC greatly influenced by addition small amount of EPR combined with MAPP and rubber cross-linking agent. The best result was achieved in the WF-PP composites comprised of 50 WF 45.41 PP 2 EPR 2.5 MAPP and 0.10 rubber cross-linking agent. The tensile strength breaking elongation. Youngs modulus and impact properties values of the improved WF-PPcomposites were 38.3 MPa 0.0216 2780 MPa and 10.40kj/m2 respectively. Compared to the composite contained only 50 WF and 50 PP the values of tensile strength Youngs modulus and impact properties were increased about 157.05 54.31 and 70.49 respectively.
