Abstract
The main objective of this research is to find out the substitution of construction board lumber and plywood. For this purpose research on com-ply one of panel product and also a structural wood composite products is determined as one of the composite boards which is made of veneer on the face/back layers and particleboard on the core layers. Com-ply is a very good product because it can use lignocellulotic material waste in the core layer and using thin veneer in the face and back layers. In this research oil palm stemand waste paper at different ratio 100:0.75:25 2.11805555555556 25:75 and 0:100 were used as core and Meranti veneer was used as face/back layers and bonded by Urea Formaldehyde UF at 10 based on the particle and veneer oven dry weight. The result obtained are as follow: 1 Physical characteristics met JIS A 5908 - 2003 about 0.59 - 0.71 g/cm3 for density and 9.061 - 11.123 for moisture content. 2Dimensional stability for all samples were vary at different ratio of core material 3 The MOR for length direction were fulfil JIS Standard A 5908-2003 the range were 683-3207 kgf/cm2 4 Unfortunately the MOE for length direction didnt require JIS Standard 5Internal bond IB as one of mechanical characteristic was vary at different ratio of core material. 6 Screws holding strength were increased due to the increasing of waste paper in the core layer the range were 13-43kgf.
