Abstract
As the next century approaches the oil palm industry is expected to expand globally. There is a great demand for high quality oil palm planting materials. PKPF's breeding strategies to meet this challenge involves focussing on three important aspects namely on-going breeding programmes to identify the best DxP combinations a quality oriented DxP seed production process and clonal propagation of the best individual palms. The overall strategy is to have DxP materials with high oil production and moderate kernel production in order to maximise economic returns from both palm oil and palm kernels.
