Abstract
In Malaysia fisheries sector plays an important role especially in terms of income gain of foreign exchange and employment. The inshore fisheries is heavily exploited and there is evidence that fishing is over saturated. However the deep sea fisheries has further potential for development. Aquaculture also offers bright prospects for further development and expansion. Based on resources potential the development efforts are geared towards the deep sea fisheries and aquaculture sector while sustaining production from the inshore sector. Ornamental fish industry also has shown a significant growth in terms of production and export.
