Abstract

Six silk nest weaving ant species from Malaysia are described as members of the Camponotus subgenus Karavaievia Emery 1925 : Camponotus (Karavaievia) striatipes sp.n. C.(K.) gentingenesis sp.n. C(K.) micragyne sp.n.. In addition males from Componotus (K.) gombski Dumpert 1985 and C.(K.) asli Dumpet 1989 are described. Subsequently the subgenus now consists of thirteen species which are most likely all weaver ants. The new Karavaievia species are compared with the already described ones both with respect to morphological and behavioural characteristics. A key to all hitherto described species of the subgenus Karavaievia is added.
