Abstract

Fecal pellets of Varanus b. nebulosus were collected and analysed on Pulau Tioman in the South China Sea Malaysia. The stomachs of 16 captured V. b. nebulosus were flushed with water and the contents analysed. It was found that their main diet consists of insects invertebrates and occasionally small vertebrates such as geckos and juvenile sun lizards. Cockroaches made up 45.41 percent of the total diet. Individuals spent up to 8 hours per day foraging in a relatively small area (0.3 ha) and their preferred hunting strategy was digging prey out.
