Abstract
Since the 1950s there has been concern over the possible harmful effects of antibiotics used in animal husbandry. Antibiotics have also gained acceptance in fish culture especially semi-intensive and intensive culture of shrimp. They are widely used in shrimp culture to keep shrimp diseases under check. However it is important to withdraw the drugs well in advance of harvesting to enable the animals to clear themselves of any residual antibiotics. In spite of the fact that most countries have strategies to prevent the occurence of antibiotic residues in their exports occasionally we come across reports of contaminated consigments
