Abstract
Accurate determination of forest growth and yield is central to sustainable forest management as true sustainable forest management concerns not only the present status (stocking) of the forest but its future yield as well. In Peninsular Malaysia there has been a general progression made in forest growth and yield studies since the early 1900's resulting in the availability of an extensive amount of growth data. What is lacking however is consolidation evaluation and anlyses of these studies. In terms of growth and yield modelling various attempts had been made. Procedures have advance from those that used direct estimation techniques to those that use statistical models to analyse growth performance of forest stands. However many of the models developed were not put into practical use. With the current world wide concern for forest sustainability it is anticipated that forest growth and yield studies would be intensified especially in the tropical region including Malaysia.
