Abstract
In our experience the early yield performance of tissue cultured oil palm material which originated from Agrocom Enterprise shows high potential. Despite being planted in soils relatively poor in nature and subjected to unfavourable climatic condition the clear advantage of AGK clones over DxP seedlings was markedly demonstrated. The first three years of cumulative fresh fruit bunches (FFB) production shows that the clones were ahead by 35 and 54 per cent in terms of oil yield per ha. The most promising clones planted so far are AGK 19 and 26. The success of AGK clones is attributed mainly due to highly uniform performance of selected traits and low incidence of floral abnormalities. This is an indication that ortet selection and tissue culture technology plays an important role in determining the success of producing elite oil palm tissue culture material.
