Abstract

There is potential in planting fast growing timber trees such as teak sentang mahogany and khaya in FELDA areas. Timber trees are easy to grow and do not require high demand for labour in the long term. The returns are expected to be high although it takes some time. Timber tree cultivation also maximises land utilization especially for the hilly areas which are less suitable for oil palm or rubber. Experimental planting in PPPTR include inter-cropping teak in coffee and sentang as avenue planting in cocoa areas.
