Abstract
A phytochemical screening of alkaloids was carried out on 169 leaf bark and root samples from 69 plant species representing 54 genera and 32 families. All plant materials were collected during the Borneo Scientific Expedition at Gunung Danum forest conservation area. From the 93 leaf 66 bark and 10 root samples screened 22 of the leaf 22 of the bark and 7 of the root samples were found to give positive results. Plants of the Annonaceae were the highest in alkaloid distribution and concentration. Furthermore the alkaloids were not generally distributed evenly in the different parts of the plants.
