Abstract

Sixty species of amphibians and reptiles were recorded within 11 sites in Tasek Bera. These comprised 19 species of amphibians (frogs and toads) and 41 species of reptiles (8 species of freshwater testudines 15 species of lizards and 18 species of snakes). Most of the herpetofauna recorded in this survey are common species. Three species of tortoises found in the area are of conservation interest - Manouria emys and Heosemys spinosa are categorised as 'vulnerable' by IUCN (1996) while Orlitia borneensis is considered as 'Data deficient'. The survey provided baseline data on the diversity of the herpetofauna in Tasek Bera. More intensive and systematic studies may yield a greater diversity of species.
