Abstract

Leaf-eating caterpillars are naturally controlled by various insect predators and parasitoids. Whey they are not feeding on caterpillars these insects survive mainly on the nectar and other liquids secreted by various nectariferous plants. Apart from acting as a food source these beneficial plants also provide shelter and protection for these insects. This article introduces several plant species which have been proven beneficial for pest control and are encouraged for planting in the oil palm field. The species are Cassia cobanensis Euphorbia heterophylla Antigonon leptopus and the white and yellow-flower varieties of Turnera.
