Abstract

Surface water total suspended solid (TSS) concentrations were measured at the riverine-estuarine ecosystem of Tanjung Rhu Pulau langkawi. Data were collected at monthly intervals from January 1997 to December 1997. Mean TSS concentrations varied from 93.92 plus minus 50.10 mg per L to 148.65 plus minus 45.39 mg per L within this study area. A distinct pattern of TSS fluctuations among various sampling locations was observed. Other physical water quality parameters measured from the surface waters in this study include salinity temperature dissolved oxygen and turbidity. The distribution of TSS in this study area was highly influenced by the tidal conditions. Statistical analysis showed that levels of TSS and its associated parameters were significantly different between sampling stations and between sampling months at 5 percent significance level.
