Abstract

The genetic analysis of quantitative characters in teak (Tectona grandis) was done using growth data from two progeny trials of age eight and seven years established with five and six open pollinated families respectively of which five were common in both the trials. The results indicated the presence of considerable genetic variation for height diameter and basal area. Moderately high to very high heritability and genetic gain values suggested the predominant role of additive gene action. Positive but non-significant correlations were found among all the characters in both the trials. Clones ORPUB-1 and ORPUB-4 of 1986 and ORPUB-5 of 1987 trials were found to be the best general combiners for height diameter and basal area.
