Abstract
Nine insecticides were evaluated in 3 experiments conducted at two locations Bachok (Jan crop) and Pasir Mas (Apr-Jun crop) both in Kelantan Malaysia against tobacco budworms armyworms and aphids on tobacco variety MN14. Based on the results of cured leaf yield and quality larval counts and pest damage assessments; permethrin monocrotophos acephate methamidophos and methomyl gave excellent control of Chloria assulta Spodoptera litura and Myzus persicae on tobacco. Average performance were observed with sulprofos and phosphamidon. Consistently poor control were attained with carbofuran granules and Bacillus thuringensis. Based on acute oral and dermal toxity values permethrin and acephate were the least toxic among the nine insecticides. Methamidophos monocrotophos and methomyl were the most toxic acute oral toxicities of more than 200 times higher than that of permethrin and 40 times that of acephate. However costwise methamidophos and monocrotophos were the cheapest acephate being the second cheapest while methomyl and permethrin were the most expensive
