Rice bulk handling systems Malaysia

Abstract

Padi bulk handling systems are expected to replace the present bag handling system which have experienced severe problems on lack of labour reduction in quality high spillage losses and high handling cost. Three systems are recommended based on the present padi marketing channels and the production capacities of the different categories of farmers. The systems involve direct transfer of grain in bulk from the field to the drying complexes by individual farmers producing between 2-4 tons of padi per season grain handling through field purchasing or collecting centres and bulk handling from padi estate system. The bulk handling systems will help reduce the present congestion problem during peak harvesting season by encouraging primary processing such as grading precleaning and predrying at farm site to enable temporary holding prior to transport to the drying centres
