Chan W.H., . A speculative book at an extended productive life cycle for Hevea. pp. 249-261. ISSN 0126-575X
Abstract
The paper discussed the feasibility of extending the life span of rubber with current technology and presented knowledge of the crop. A major drawback of rubber was its long immaturity period. With a gestation period ranging from five-seven years the productive lifespan of rubber constituted about 75-84 per cent of a normal lifespan of about 30 years. On a rotational cycle about 25 per cent of the land would be perpetually not productive. A scheme which incorporated puncture and conventional tapping to achieve theoretical lifespan of 53 and 69 years was discussed. The main advantages by extending its lifespan were a smaller percentage of land under immaturity a lower capital outlay for replanting and increased in the potential timber value of rubber
