Abstract

The assessment of plywood processing characteristics of Derum (Cratoxylon formosan) on one log indicated that the billets could be peeled into 1.6 mm veneers without difficulty but into 3.2 mm veneers with slight difficulty even though billets were pretreated prior to cutting. Veneers dried at a moderate rate with only slight drying checks and end waviness. Bond quality of urea-formaldehyde adhesive bonded panels was satisfactory but phenol-formaldehyde adhesive bonded panels was unsatisfactory. The colour of the plywood was reddish brown. Figure was visible on the surfaces and distinct at interlocked grain areas.
