Mohamed Ibrahim Haji Mohamed, . Some aspects of selection length frequency and length depth relationship of by-catch species by Matahari Expedition 85 Peninsular Malaysia. -.
Abstract
Trawls employing 38.1 mm and 31.7 mm cod. end mesh sizes were employed during the Matahari Expedition 1985. Elements of selection on the by-catch species of the two trawls were examined. The fishing power by the larger net/mesh sized net were shown to be higher than the smaller net/mesh sized net. The percentage rate of retention of by-catch by the 31.7 mm mesh sized net however was higher than the 38.1 mm mesh size net. Total length maximum depth relationship of dominant by-catch species was shown to be linear. Although some extensibility was shown by the polyethelene material cod-end a larger mesh size would improve selection especially on the juveniles of commercially important species component of by-catch
