Mohamed Ibrahim Haji Mohamed, . Temporal differences in the trawl catch of Matahari Expedition 85 Peninsular Malaysia. -.
Abstract
In a comparative fishing study differences between the day and night trawl catch particularly the trash fish component were analysed. This study assisted to determine the efficient period for trawling operation in Malaysia's Exclusive Economic Zone. Results of the study indicated that the mean rate of day catch was almost twice as that of night trawls. Furthermore the percentage of trash fish in the total catch of day trawling was 22.76 as compared to night trawls which yielded 40. More activity was exhibited by trash fish species at night while food fish component decreased perhaps as a result of their vertical migration
