Abstract

In spite of impressive advances attained in various disciplines of plant protection pest continue to cause serious crop losses. With ever increasing world population particularly in developing countries there is an urgent need to increase agricultural production. This would have to be attained mainly through more intensive and cost-efficient cultivation in view of rather limited cultivable areas and increasing cost of production in many tropical countries. To achieve this objective an efficient and effective plant protection system is a pre-requisite. This paper discusses more approaches towards more effective plant protection. However before improvements are suggested it is necessary to examine the major constraints in plant protection.
