Abstract
Prospects of large scale rice farming on rehabilitated or existing rice land were more encouraging than small scale operation. Rehabilitation of idle land could be very costly. Options on crop establishment and other production procedures were presented. Farm returns and cost efficiency from large and small scale production systems were highlighted. Farming through the use of own machinery would save cost in the long run as compared with contract services. Implication of fertilizer subsidy paddy price support and other measures were discussed
