Abstract
Cleft grafting was a new vegetative propagation technique developed for durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.). In a study involving five durian clones 93-100 success rate was obtained. The clones D2 and D24 were found to be more vigorous in shoot growth as compared with D10 D98 and KY 56. Studies were also conducted to determine the optimum age of rootstocks for cleft grafting using seedlings ranging between 5 and 19 weeks old. However no definite seedling age for obtaining high grafting success was indicated. This new technique was described and illustrated and its advantages over conventional propagation method for durian are discussed in the paper
