Abstract

Twenty-one sediment samples obtained from each station during the expedition were analysed to study some general characteristics and grain-size distribution. It was found that the sediments ranged from sandy loam to clay loam and was mostly dark yellow and grey in colour. Grain-size distribution sorting skewness kurtosis and texture showed no regular pattern and were non-systematic. Phi mean grain-size distribution was in the range of 3.06 to 5.93 and the skewness values of stations 2 6 12 18 19 and 21 were negative. The kurtosis and median value of the sediments ranged between 0.95-1.08 and 3.40-5.90 respectively. Generally the sediments ranged fro0635m poorly to very poorly sorted and sediments from the north-western part of the study area tended to be coarser toward the coastal re
