Abstract

Synthetic food colours presented in samples of chilli sauce tomato sauce shrimp paste cordials and flavoured concentrates collected from the states of Johore Selangor Terengganu and Kedah were identified. Based on The Sale of Food and Drugs Ordinance and Regulations 1952 unpermitted food colours detected in the samples were Rhodamine B Patent Blue VRS and Fast Green FCF. Whereas under the new Food Regulations 1985 which came into effect on 1st October 1985 unpermitted food colours presented in the samples were Rhodamine B Yellow 2 G Red 10B Red 2G Orange RN Green S and patent Blue VRS
