Abstract
Steaming CCA-treated kempas timber resulted in spontaneous fixation of the preservative in the wood with a considerable reduction in the leaching of the preservative. The steaming process did not effect the MOR strength value but the MOE strength value showed a drop of 27 percent. An increase of 24 percent in the hardness was recorded. Thus post steaming treatment holds considerable promise for the wood preservation industry and needs to be intensively examined for tropical hardwoods
