Abstract

The suitability of six different varieties of ripe banana fruits (Musa sapientum) for development of the larvae of Dacus dorsalis Hendel were conducted in the insectory (27 degrees C plus/minus 1.5 degrees). Berangan variety showed the highest percentage of adult emergence (35.5 degrees) and Embun variety was the least (8.8 percent). Nutritional analysis of ripe fruits indicated that Berangan variety has the highest sugar content. Intraspecific competition for larvae of D. dorsalis in Berangan variety showed that a high larval density (50 larvae/600 gm) had adversed effects on larval development.
