Abstract
The effect of carbaryl and permethrin on the growth and the life table parameters of Aphis craccivora Koch. was studied. Results indicated that both insecticides applied at low concentrations could cause significant inhibition in reproduction and growth of the aphid population. All early nymphal instars diet when exposed to concentrations in excess of 0.0106 percent carbaryl and 0.00069 percent permethrin. Three percent of the nymphs exposed to 0.0106 percent carbaryl resulted in delayed reproduction three days later than those that were not treated. In addition they experienced a significantly shorter life span of 10 days when compared to 29 days in the control. At 0.00035 percent of permethrin only five percent of the treated aphids survived and reproduced. Values for the life table parameters clearly showed that the populations exposed to 0.0106 percent carbaryl were dying and unable to continue into the following generation while a concentration of 0.00035 percent permethrin almost resulted in a zero population growth (r 0.06).
