Abstract

Symptoms of Ganoderma wilt disease of coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) also called as Thanjavur wilt prevalent in India are described. Ganoderma lucidum (Leys) Karst alone was consistently isolated from the roots of diseased palms which on artificial inoculation caused root rotting in healthy coconut palms. Increase in soil temperature increased the severity of the disease and increase in soil moisture decreased the severity. Incorporation of organic manures in soil in coconut basins especially neem cake and irrigation during summer months reduced the severity of the disease. Soil drenching with 1 per cent Bordeaux mixture 40 litres and root feeding with 2 g of Aureofungin-sol with 1 g of copper sulphate in 100 ml of water both done thrice at quarterly intervals preferably during winter i.e. July October and January were very effective in the management of the disease.
