Abstract

Grain maize should be dried within 48 h after harvesting to prevent it from damages due to fungus infestation and dry matter loss. Immediate drying will maintain grain quality. The drying process is carried out using sun drying or mechanical dryers. Proper planning of drying is essential for efficient drying operation. Important factors to be considered prior to drying include type and system of the dryers grain quality fuel cost and efficient use of labour.
