Abstract

Four cage and field studies on the effect of recommended and sublethal doses of some insecticides on the biology and population of Bemisia tabaci Gennadius (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) were conducted in Andhra Pradesh India over 1985-1987. Results showed that synthetic pyrethroids viz. deltamethrin fenvalerate permethrin and cypermethrin popularly used on cotton have contributed to the resurgence of the whitefly on cotton. They reduced the egg incubation period and increased the sex ratio. The failure of these insecticides to control the whitefly also suggests the development of resistance to the chemicals.
