Abstract
This paper describes an investigation of the increased mechanical stability obtained by heating latex concentrate at 60 degrees C for limited periods. The present study suggests that this does not result from chemical changes due for example to accelerated hydrolysis. The heating process appears to affect only the mechanical stability of the latex and the associated property of zinc oxide mechanical stability. It is tentatively suggested that the increase in stability is the result of a reversible structural change in the adsorbed layers on the rubber particles.
