Abstract
Seven new lines of pulut hitam were developed from a cross between MR 33 and pulut hitam Siam. All the new lines outyielded the parent (pulut hitam Siam) by 47-103 percent. Culm height of the new lines is 47-72 cm shorter than the parent. Similarly the maturation period is 15-22 days earlier indicating that the new lines can be planted in the main and off seasons. The grains of the new lines are more lender and the pericarp is also darker. pH4 and pH9 perform better than the other lines. pH 9 is recommended for commercial planting.
