Abstract
Fenoxaprop-ethyl at the rate of 0.10-0.12 kg a.i./ha was found to be effective in controlling barnyard grass in direct seeded rice. The herbicide fulfilled the requirement of being selective but this was at the expense of rice plants in terms of phytotoxicity. At late post-emergence application increased efficacy of the herbicide was observed while for a broader spectrum of control mixture with bensulfuron was necessary. The herbicide bensulfuron and a mixture of molinate 2 4-D IBE which were used for comparison in this study were still the most favourable and would remain a better option for chemical weed control over that of fenoxaprop-ethyl.
