Siddiqi N.A., . Observations on initial spacing in a Keora (Sonneratia apetala Buch.-Ham.) plantation along the coastal belt of Bangladesh. pp. 204-276. ISSN 0302-2935
Abstract
A trial to determine the optimum initial spacing for keora (Sonneratia apetala Buch.-Ham.) in the coastal area of Bangladesh revealed no significant survival and height growth difference amongst the spacings. Data collected five years after planting indicated higher girth increment at wider spacings (8.26 cm/yr for 2.4m x 2.4m and 7.84cm/yr for 3.4m x 3.4m) while wood production was higher in closer spacings (18 m3/yr/ha for 1.2 x 1.2 and 16m3/yr/ha for 0.85 x 0.85). Proportion of forked trees increased with the increase in spacings. On suitable sites a wider spacing (1.7 x 1.7) seemed more appropriate than the presently practised 1.2 x 1.2 spacing.
