Abstract

An economic evaluation was carried out to determine the potential of tropical mushrooms to be grown on the lowland and the most economical media for growing mushroom. Financial analysis indicates that the use of sawdust medium is more economical than the use of cotton-waste medium for most types of mushrooms. The study indicates that the grey oyster white oyster and jew's ear are the potential varieties for commercial growing. However it is currently uneconomical to grow padi-straw mushroom commercially due to its low yield and relatively short economic life.
