Abstract
The Dendrobium species belonging to sections Oxystophyllum and Aporum have laterally compressed and overlapping leaves. The stems are small and woody and the flowers are dull coloured and unattractive. The flowers of Dendrobium leonis have the fragrance of vanilla while the flowers of Dendrobium carnosum and Dendrobium aloifolium have no fragrance and are much smaller. The unique leaf shape of these species make them suitable as foliage plants.
